Credit Control - Notice of Potential Liability

This article is part of the Credit Control & Client Statuses section.
Notice of Potential Liability ("NOPL")
An NOPL is listed against the property and therefore the owner, not the client. An NOPL lasts for 3 years and will also handover to a new client in the property upon a sale.
You can record when an NOPL has been registered for an owner on the Credit Control tab on the Client account.
To do this:
- Click the NOPL button to open the NOPL screen

- Enter your dates - Action Instructed, Effective and Expiration. The expiry date will automatically set for 3 years, but you can amend this.
- Enter a Narrative.
- Click Save, and then OK on the pop up confirmation.
- A second pop-up will ask if you want to update the client's credit control status.
- If you have created an NOPL status type (see: Credit Control Status Types) then click Yes to place the client on that status.
You will now see a Narrative line on the Credit Control tab for the NOPL, and a second line for the new Credit Control Status, if selected in the previous step.
The NOPL Expiry will appear on the pin panel at the top of the client account screen.
Amending an NOPL
You can only have one NOPL on the client so when you click the NOPL button after entering one, it will bring up the previously entered details for you to amend.
You can also delete the NOPL from this screen.
When you delete an NOPL, a Narrative line will be entered into the grid on the Credit Control tab. You will need to resolve the status separately, if you changed this when the NOPL was added. For more information on how to resolve credit control statuses, see
this article.

You may find that when trying to delete a sale, you cannot because of the NOPL on the account. If this happens, you can delete the NOPL using the Delete button on the Credit Control tab and then run your Sale Deletion in Client Global.
You can amend the amount of an NOPL by right clicking on the Narrative line in the Credit Control grid, and clicking Amend.
Creating an NOPL User Report
To view all properties with an NOPL. you can set up your own report under Reports > New Report.
Use:
- Category: Client
- Focus: NOPL Report
- Select the columns you would like to include in your report, and use the arrows to add them to the Selected box.
- Click Next.
- On the Query Build screen, set your filters.

For example, you could choose:
- NOPLExpiryDate
- Less Than or Equal To
- Ask
This will mean that before you run your report, you will be asked to input a cutoff date and your results will show all clients with an NOPL set to expire on or before that date.
- Click Run. As with other user reports you can group your results by column header.
- Click Next.
- Click Save to save the report as an Excel file or click Print to print it or to save it as a PDF.
- Click Finish to save the report for future use.
You can access your saved report under
Reports >
